A Shared Language of Craft: Ourika × Pilgrim House
We’ve long admired Ourika, the homeware brand and vintage rug specialist known for their thoughtful curation and commitment to timeless design. The ethos behind their collection of antique and vintage handwoven rugs resonates deeply with our own values - slow consumption, traditional craftsmanship, and enduring design made to last.
We recently invited Ourika’s founder, Katie Loweth, to share her thoughts on which of her one-of-a-kind rugs she would pair with pieces from our furniture collection.
“My dream home would be filled with timeless, handmade pieces, each telling a story,” says Katie. “So I loved selecting cabinets from Pilgrim House to pair with some of our most-loved vintage and antique rugs. Though made in different eras, these pieces share a quiet understanding - crafted by hand using traditional techniques, natural materials, and with longevity at their heart.”
New Shaker Armoire in Harebell Pink × 1940s Swedish Kilim by Margareta Åkerberg
“This is a playful pairing - one of my favourite vintage Swedish flatweaves alongside Pilgrim’s Harebell Pink. The graphic boldness of the rug is softened by the calm, dusty pink of the cabinet, which brings balance and a sense of calm. It would be beautiful in a bedroom or dressing room. Both are strong, heirloom pieces, but the colour and shape keep things feeling fresh and modern.”
New Shaker Tall Cupboard in Dew Pond × ‘Electra’ Antique Persian Heriz
“The earthy, rust-toned palette of this 100-year-old Persian Heriz rug sets off Dew Pond beautifully. There’s something quietly grounding in the way these tones speak to each other. Both the rug and the armoire are handmade—one from 100% natural wool dyed with plants and vegetables, the other from solid materials and painted by hand in a shade inspired by the Sussex landscape. They feel timeless together, comforting but never dull.”
New Shaker Sideboard in Appleterre × Antique Persian Malayer Runner
“This pairing feels especially nostalgic. The soft patina of the Malayer runner echoes the depth of tone in Appletere, a green with just the right amount of chalkiness. The simplicity of this combination feels honest and grounding. I can see it working in a hallway, a kitchen, or a quiet corner of a sitting room - somewhere that welcomes daily life.”
There’s a natural affinity between antique and contemporary craft - when both are made with care, intention, and respect for material, they meet with ease. Ourika’s rugs and our furniture belong in the same kind of home: one that unfolds slowly, thoughtfully, and with soul.
